MARTIN IAIES CHAMBER ENSEMBLE
Another group born out of sheer curiosity.
In early 2024, a composition of mine for clarinet, cello, and piano—“Cyclical Loss of Hope”—was awarded First Prize in the Alwin-Fill-Förderpreis: Musik für den Frieden, a competition focused on exploring the relationship between music and linguistics. The piece premiered at the award ceremony, and hearing it performed with an instrumentation so far removed from the jazz context I usually inhabit made me want to create a group that could include the guitar, but within a setting closer to classical or chamber music.
And that’s how my Chamber Ensemble was born.
The current lineup includes clarinet, cello, and trombone, with myself on guitar, loops, and FX.
The repertoire is a mix of my original compositions and arrangements of works by some of my musical heroes, such as Bill Frisell, Carla Bley, and Kenny Wheeler.
